Eco-friendly Convention Center

The Vancouver Convention Centre is committed to environmentally sustainable practices. For example, by installing a heat recovery system at the facility, this facility reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 150 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent annually. GRANSHIP: One of Shizuoka’s leading convention centers

The Shizuoka Convention & Arts Center (commonly known as GRANSHIP) is a prefectural complex cultural facility located in Higashi-Shizuoka, Suruga-ku, Shizuoka City, which opened in 1999 as a “base for cultural creation and exchange” in Shizuoka Prefecture.

GRANSHIP has a total floor area of 60,630 m² and a site area of 36,009 m², with 12 floors above ground and 1 floor below ground. It is one of the major MICE facilities in Shizuoka Prefecture (GRANSHIP, Twin Messe Shizuoka, Act City Hamamatsu, Fujisan Messe, Plaza Verde).

As its name suggests, GRANSHIP is characterized by its appearance that imitates a ship. The large hall with a 58m atrium has an arena area of 1720m² on the first floor and can accommodate up to 4626 people.

The middle hall is a proscenium style ideal for the main venue and lecture venue. The conference hall is an international conference hall equipped with simultaneous interpretation equipment that can be used as the main venue for meetings, lectures, and academic conferences.

GRANSHIP completed a full renovation in October 2021

GRANSHIP will be closed from September 8th, 2020 to February 28th, 2021 for renovation work to make it earthquake resistant. After the re-opening on March 1, 2021, facilities such as the Large Hall (Ocean) that have completed construction will reopen, and on October 1, the Medium Hall (Earth) will reopen for the first time in 13 months. The whole building has been renewed as a safer and more secure facility.

The renewal was not limited to structural aspects, but aimed at creating a space that is easier for facility users to use and where all customers can feel free to drop in. Many of the lights in the building have been changed to LEDs, making the facility bright while saving energy.

The first-floor lobby is bright with a white marble floor, and has been kept so clean that you wouldn’t believe it was opened 22 years ago. You can come and go freely when the museum is open, so you can easily use the benches and rest spaces to meet up while feeling familiar with the permanent exhibitions on the 1st to 3rd floors.

The south side of the first floor of the building is a healing spot where you can take a break. In November 2021, a new bakery & cafe “GALLEY” opened in the back of the “Cultural Information Room” that collects cultural information from inside and outside Shizuoka Prefecture.

Spend an elegant day in the newly reborn GRANSHIP while appreciating the art on permanent display that changes every six months, enjoying freshly baked bread and delicious coffee.

Access to GRANSHIP

Get off at JR Higashi Shizuoka Station, which is 1 station and 3 minutes from JR Shizuoka Station, and walk about 5 minutes from the south exit to the main entrance.

If you are using the Tokaido Shinkansen (Hikari), please get off at Shizuoka Station in 1 hour from Tokyo and 2 hours from Shin-Osaka. Change to the Tokaido Main Line going up and it takes 3 minutes to Higashi-Shizuoka Station.

If you are coming by car, there is a parking lot on the west side of GRANSHIP (about 400 standard-sized cars / 7 spaces for wheelchair users) and a parking lot on the east side (32 spaces for restaurant priority / 2 spaces for wheelchair users).
